Senate candidate Todd Akin has opened Pandora's box, and I am glad he did! Why? Because his insensitive, erroneous, and unscientific remarks are forcing many to realize that there are issues surrounding rape that need immediate attention. The first issue is that a rapist currently has access to parental rights in 31 states in the U.S. if his victim conceives and gives birth to the child!

We had to deal with this in our family and now a courageous young mother writes about it here.

Another author writes about "Consecrated Children," as I call them, in his story, When a Horrific rape Leads to an Innocent Life.

I pray that Akin's thoughtless remarks will continue to help bring these and other issues to light. I also pray that intelligent people everywhere will come to realize that killing the rape victim's child does nothing to erase the crime committed; it only inflicts more pain on the mother, kills her child, and perpetuates the cycle of violence in society.
